NATIONAL LIQUIDATORS (www.natliquidators.com)
National Liquidators (National) is the nation’s leading marine vessel recovery and remarketing firm. National manages the seizure, transport, care & custody and resale of vessels of all sizes and purposes, from pleasure boats to ocean-going luxury yachts. The company offers comprehensive services for lenders, federal and local government agencies, dealers and manufacturers, attorneys and insurance companies, as well as independent boat sellers. From the beginning, the goal was for National Liquidators to become the largest and most respected company of its kind anywhere—which has become the mission statement that hangs in his office today. The company continues to maintain high standards for personal and employee performance, and employs passionate managers who share ownership’s values of integrity and professionalism. Since 1988, the company has handled over 25,000 cases from runabouts to mega yachts, passenger ships and cargo vessels.
In 1993, National became the first vessel recovery and remarking organization to establish and maintain a transactional website, enabling them to reach potential buyers far beyond the Florida market. National created a sealed-bid online auction approach for efficient sale of the inventory owned by the company’s clients. This new concept proved to be a global marketing method, and the company now sells more than 2,000 boats and yachts a year with 40% of sales to international buyers. The auction process also maximizes the value of vessels recovered for the banks, the government and other lenders. Today the site, www.yachtauctions.com, is one of the most visited sites in the industry with over a million page views per month.
In 1996, National Liquidators was awarded a government contract to seize, transport, maintain and auction vessels for the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the U. S. Marshals Service in the Southern District of Florida. Gaining this contract solidified National’s reputation as a trustworthy company among other government agencies and banks who needed boat repossession and remarketing services. What followed was a period of heightened activity in which National experienced significant growth, opening full service facilities in Newport Beach, CA and Cleveland, OH. These profitable facilities, along with a robust internet presence, enabled National to serve clients from coast-to-coast, as well as in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. National continues to offer banks and other lenders a high level of service in a professional business environment, maximizing returns and securely protecting their assets. National now represents 90% of the largest marine lending institutions in the U.S. The company is led by President Matthew Amata, who has over 10 years working with National.
A Seven Step Operating Procedure for Boat Recovery was established, as well as an industry leading training program for recovery agents to ensure integrity and quality in the way the business is run. The recovery agent training program requires:
- 40 hour state certification
- One year internship
- Internal training and mentoring
- Safety and operation qualification testing
- Annual legal training
NATIONAL MARITIME SERVICES (www.vesselarrest.com)
National Maritime Services (NMS) was created to manage the widely expanded government contracts, as well as to arrest vessels on behalf of maritime attorneys, providing unparalleled ship seizure, custodial and remarketing services around the world. BLUE WATER MARINE TRANSPORT (www.bwmarinetransport.com)
The company recognized that providing boat hauling was another natural extension of its customer service offerings. Through Blue Water Marine Transport, the transportation service that National has provided to bank clients--totaling more than 7,500 moves on land and by water--is available to retail boat buyers. Fully licensed and insured, Blue Water Marine Transport specializes in transporting vessels up to 60 feet by land to 48 states in the continental US, and to Canada and Mexico.
MARITECH SERVICES (www.maritechservice.com)
MariTech Services (MariTech) began as a bare-bones service department, responsible for repairing repossessed boats prior to resale. The company saw the opportunity to leverage decades of experience and at the same time increase profitability by partnering with National Liquidators. MariTech has evolved into a full-service shop, serving retail customers and enabling National and NMS to meet client needs for high-quality maintenance and comprehensive custodial services. Today MariTech is the largest volume boat repair servicer in South Florida, handling more than 5,000 boats in the past three years. MariTech boasts a state of the art facility employing 40 service professionals. Another facility is in the planning stages. Alan Swimmer serves as president of MariTech Services.
MARITIME CAPITAL GROUP (www.maritimecapitalgroup.com)
With thousands of visitors to National’s marinas and online inventory, a natural extension of the company’s business was to provide financing, insurance, titling, documentation and warranty services to buyers. In 2004, Maritime Capital Group (MCG) was established and has become a leading provider of boat and yacht lending, assisting buyers with loans customized to their individual financing needs. The company also counsels domestic and international banks in acquiring or liquidating marine portfolios. MCG has financing centers in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Capistrano Beach, CA. The company is led by President Alan Swimmer, a 25-year veteran of the marine lending and finance industry. Prior to assuming his current role, Alan owned and operated several large specialty finance companies, including Beacon Credit Services, Destination Financial Services and Essex Credit Corporation.
